One of our favorite places to go as a family is the Long Beach area where the Aquarium of the Pacific is and that's where we went for Father's Day this year. It is such a nice spot to hang out and walk around. We have somewhat of a routine when we go. We go to the aquarium first or we eat first and then we walk around the wharf area and inevitably end up at the ice cream shop and head back. Sometimes we go around the other way too and walk up to the lighthouse... At the end of this outing, on our way out of the parking garage, I always find myself thinking what a nice day it was and what a nice way to spend some time together.
Daniel is truly a great dad. He loves his kids with all his heart and he takes such good care of them. I couldn't ask for more. I think being a dad is a lot harder for him than he bargained for, but he loves every bit of it. No matter how trying Emma can be, he will always talk about how much he loves his baby girl. And Ethan, well Ethan has just stolen his heart. I think Daniel never realized how much fun having a boy would be. I don't think he ever pictured himself with a son, but they are already a great team. He calls Ethan his "Sonshine".
And this last photo doesn't really go with the rest, I just really really like it. :) Emma is getting so tall and thin. People comment on where she got her long legs from and that would be me! I was all legs as a child. You'd never know it now, but yep, that's from me.
Thanks for letting me share and I hope all the dads out there in your lives had a wonderful Father's Day with lots of sweet memories to store in their hearts.
We were at the park today, trying to get a photo of my son for his first birthday invitation. It was a very hot day - I think the first day this summer I've had to run our A/C in fact. The kids were sweaty and beet red from running around. These shots remind me of our 4th of July photo that we take every year of the kids on our friends' front porch. I love that photo. But we will have the addition of Ethan this year. Wow, you'll have to wish us luck on that one!
And on a sadder note, Emma noticed a framed photo today that I have up on a shelf. It's my family photo, taken when I was about ten. She pointed to it and said "There's Grandpa". And I took the opportunity to pull it down and tell her who everyone was. I pointed out Grandpa and then said, "And this is your Grandma who you have never met, but she loves you very much". I went on to point out myself and her aunt Donna, who she thought was herself. And then I choked up, just like I'm doing now. I talk about her Grandma, but she doesn't get it, and of course I don't expect her to yet. That's very confusing for her. She has her Grandma Lee and she has Jerrie whom she will refer to as Grandma. I know she would absolutely love my mom if she were here and I still can't believe that my children will never know her. That is a very sad thing for me. So for now I will just keep pointing her out in photos and talking about her. And someday, the questions will come. Someday, she will be told that her middle name was her grandma's name too and I hope she will feel it is a very special gift to share that with her. And I'm bawling now, so I've really got to stop. Thanks for letting me share because that really affected me tonight.
